Subject: Merthyr Tydfil B. C. 232 (JWO 232W) Chassis: Leyland National 2 NL116L11/1R Body: Leyland National DP44F Location: A470 near Abercynon, Traveller's Rest Date: 19-May-1981
232 was originally intended to be South Wales 821 (FCY 821W) but the order was cancelled. It then received full Crosville livery featuring a dot-matrix destination display and was exhibited as a "Suburban Express" vehicle at the 1980 Motor Show at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.
It had entered service the day before this view and carried this unique colour scheme which may have been adopted to limit the repainting from the Crosville livery it carried at the Motor Show, which was the standard NBC dual-purpose livery of the time.
The adverts on the roof panels are for Rhydycar Leisure Centre. It would later carry the name Clichy-la-Garenne (Merthyr Tydfil's twin town) above the door and the black panels each side of the destination display would be painted white and would incorporate the coats-of-arms of the two towns.
