Subject: Southend C.T. 57 Truck: English Electric Burnley Maximum Traction Body: English Electric 36/34 Location, Southend, London Road depot Year: 1932
Delivered in May 1924, this was one of a batch of six which were the last new trams for Southend. They were later fitted with enclosed platforms.
Although the batch lasted nominally until the tram system was abandoned on 8-Apr-1942, 57 met its end a little earlier in an accident on 19-Dec-1941. This took place on Southchurch Road with the tram overturning and resulted in the top deck becoming separated from the lower deck.
