Subject: Western Welsh 287 (WKG 287) Chassis: AEC Reliance 2MU3RA Body: Willowbrook DP41F Location: Cardiff bus station Date: mid-1960s
287 had been new as 1287 in 1961 in the red and cream livery, was repainted in a mainly cream livery in March 1963 (being renumbered at the same time) and is here in its third livery. That was this ivory and blue scheme which it received in November 1964. It would receive the all-red bus livery in November 1970. Withdrawn in 1972 it stayed local and passed to Humphrey's of Bridgend in June 1972 and remained local again when it moved to Henley's of Abertillery where it gained a legendary status by running for another twenty years or so.
The 226 didn't see buses like this for very long with newer Tiger Cubs (and later Leopards) being the usual vehicles.
