Subject: National Welsh UD2572 (XBO 521K) Chassis: Leyland Leopard PSU3B/4R Body: Marshall DP47F Location: Maindy, North Road Date: c.1980
UD 2572 was the first of the last batch of BET-era buses to join the Western Welsh fleet - subsequent single-deckers were very much influenced by NBC policy with a predominance of Leyland Nationals.
This vehicle was new in Mar-1972 as 1521, with the 1521-1530 batch of vehicles being the first and last dual-purpose single-deckers to be delivered in the red and ivory livery. As with many dual-purpose vehicles (in particular) in the fleet it went through various renumberings becoming UD172 in Aug-1974 and then UD2572 in Oct-1975. It would later become UD1295 in the Jan-1983 reumbering.
UD2572 is on the outskirts of Cardiff city centre with the approaches to the roundabout at Gabalfa visible in the distance.
