U171 seems to be recently repainted and on a sunny day is looking as smart as a bus in poppy red could. It was the first of a batch new to Western Welsh as 1511 to 1520 and got the number shown here in the Aug-1974 renumbering.

It is working the hourly Limited Stop service from Cardiff to Ynysybwl whilst behind a Red & White Lodekka has just come down Crossbrook Street to work the 183 local service to the same destination. That service was once worked by Pontypridd UDC, Rhondda Transport and Red & White but by this date it was exclusively Red & White.
