Subject: South Wales 322 (122 NTX)?
Chassis: Leyland Tiger Cub PSUC1/1
Body: Alexander B45F
Location: Treorchy, Bwlch-y-clawdd Road
Date: 23-Jun-1973

The identity of this vehicle is by no means certain and this is my 'best fit' - I didn't record it at the time. As the service was then worked from Port Talbot it is likely to be a former Thomas Bros. vehicle and the pair of Alexander-bodied Tiger Cubs fit the emergency exit details and rear axle positon (relative to body pillars) best. As 123 NTX had roof coving advert panels I have therefore opted for the other of the pair.

The 246 service was a replacement for the former Rhondda and Swansea Bay Railway service which ran through the mountain from Blaengwynfi. Nominally jointly-operated it was always worked by South Wales. The joint partner was always shown as Western Welsh in timetables but the last timetable issued before the absorption of Rhondda into Western Welsh was issued on 1-Jun-1970, about three weeks before the rail service ceased.

The bus is climbing out of Treorchy and will eventually, after turning off the A4061 to Nantymoel, go past where I was standing taking in the view over Cwmparc.
