Stott’s bought three of these Northern Counties-bodied Leyland Titans from GMT. They originated with Wigan Corporation and still carried Wigan livery. I believe on this occasion JJP 508, formerly Wigan 132, was working a football special. It is standing outside the Odeon cinema.
At the extreme left on the other side of the road is the premises of Holts Travel Services. This had been the office (with a garage next door, just off-camera) of Tom Shaw (Greenfield) Ltd., running excursions and tours as Pleasureways. Shaw’s ceased operation and a new business called Pleasureways (1955) Ltd started operation from (again also using the Lees Road base later the home of Stott’s).
The new company was bought by Jackson’s of Altrincham which then used the Jacksons-Shearings-Pleasureways fleetname. The Oldham operation became a separate operation within the group and later traded as Pleasureways Holidays.
Shearings went on to become one of the major coach operators in the country.
