256 was another Metrorider that started as a demonstrator but that origin is less obvious as it is carrying its third registration mark here. It was built as J364 BNW and after its work as a demonstrator was complete it was sold to Cherry of Bootle who registered it J5 ACL. They clearly decided to retain that cherished mark so when it came to Rhondda it had the registration seen here. It moved to the Parfitt's fleet around the end of 1995.
It is here above Fochriw and just over 1250 feet above sea level working the 4 service from Tredegar to Bargoed via Rhymney. This service was largely a combination of the former Hill's service from Tredegar to Abertysswg and the Gelligaer UDC service 7 from Pontlottyn to Bargoed via Fochriw.
The road here has neither name nor number but 256 is at the southern end of the erstwhile Fochriw colliery at the point where the railway tracks crossed the road to reach some sidings used as a headshunt.
