Although certain routes required single-deckers, Gateshead & District nonetheless built up a sizeable fleet of double-deckers starting with this initial batch of 25 new in 1901. Thirteen were rebuilt as balcony cars in 1924-1925.

The location is the same as that of the combination car with the same caveat about its accuracy!
