At this time the timetables of the 184 and 186 were such that nearly all 184 departures to Bedlinog left Pontypridd at the same time as a 186 to Aberdare, the two proceeding together as far as Traveller's Rest.

R1353 in front had a more interesting history than most as it started off as part of the Jones, Aberbeeg fleet numbered R671J and stayed in that fleet until transferred to National Welsh. This happened officially from 1-Jan-1981 but in practice had taken place after the MAP service revisions commencing 26-Oct-1980. By then numbered R3671 it moved initially to Tredegar depot, stil in blue, before moving to Aberdare not long before this view.
