Subject: Blackpool C. T. 121 and 122 Maker: Electric Railway and Tramway Carriage Works Bogie: Brill 27D Location: Bispham, Red Bank Road Date: c.May-1924
Posed outside Bispham depot are 121 and 122, formerly Blackpool & Fleetwood 'Yankee' cars 33 and 34. These cars were all built as open-sided combination cars as 122 on the right, but all but one of the class was rebuilt as 121 already has been in this view.
These trams were fitted with prototype multiple-unit operation control gear which was the reason for taking this series of photographs.
The pair have been posed on Red Bank Road, this being the only way the photographer could clearly show the combination. This type of operation was not adopted in Blackpool and the closest they came (after even earlier trials) was the introduction of trailer operation in the late-1950s.
