Subject: Parfitt, Rhymney Bridge 393 (BYW 393V) Chassis: Leyland National 10351A/2R Body: Leyland National B44F Location: Merthyr Tydfil bus station Date: early-1990s
393 was the odd one out of the ex-London Nationals as it had been fitted, uniquely, with a DAF engine. It was not considered a good performer (hence not popular with the drivers) and was known as "Daffy Duck". However, it seems to have retained that engine even with Parfitt's. The odd engine may explain why an engine failure led to its withdrawal when re-certification was planned. Nonetheless, it went on to work with two new owners and wasn't sold for scrap until late 2006.
It is here working a Merthyr Tydfil local service to Twyncarmel. From late 1995 to early 1996 it worked from Porth depot.
