Subject: Bradford C. T. 697 (DKW 997) Chassis: Sunbeam MF2 Body: Weymann UH30/26R Location: Bradford, Forster Square Date: late-1940s
696 is still largely in original condition but the absence of blackout markings shows this to be a postwar shot. The Midland Buildings on the right were destroyed in a massive fire on 8th June 1950 which caused a lot of disruption, including the temporary cessation of the through service to Bradford Moor. The burnt-out remains survived here for some time and can be seen in other photos. Some temporary single-storey shops were built to replace those destroyed.
