Subject: Pontypridd UDC 64 (JTX 525) Chassis: Bristol K6G Body: Beadle L26/26R Location: Pontllanfraith, South Wales Switchgear factory Date: 27-Aug-1960
64 is doing what it was bought for, in this instance the works service to the South Wales Switchgear (SWS) factory at Pontllanfraith, where it is seen as part of the afternoon exodus from the plant.
SWS came out of the takeover of Whitehead Switchgear in Treforest in 1941. The factory in Pontllanfraith opened in 1946 and originally produced domestic goods such as cookers, home laundry units (what we now call a washing machine) and immersion heaters. Switchgear started production there in 1947. The factory is still open today and has been trading as Hawker Siddeley Switchgear since 2008.
Just off-camera to the right was the yard of Bryn Motors.
