HB3012o

Subject: W E Evans, Treharris HB 3102
Chassis: Thornycroft SB
Body: Hall Lewis B26-
Location: Pontypridd, Bridge Street
Date: c.1930

The Thornycroft SB chassis was only produced in small numbers, soon being eclipsed by the more popular BC model. The SB was introduced in January 1927 and featured the HB4 engine, a four-cylinder side-valve engine of 5.42 litres.

HB 3102 was new in August 1927 to Evans and Williams, Treharris. The operator became W E Evans at an unknown date and the bus is assumed to be in their ownership but there is no positive identification of owner.

The bus passed to Imperial Motor Company, Abercynon in 1933 along with Evans's share of the Pontypridd to Treharris service - it is not known how long it remained with Imperial.

This photograph is a splendid portrait of the conductor and it would be good to identify him.
